1992 - 1995 INTERPLAY PRODUCTIONS
My first commercial animation work was Heart of the Alien. I drew all the storyboards, background designs, art, and both cinematic and ingame animations. This game was incredibly popular and received high praise from the game critics. 30 years later, they are still talking about it.

A couple of projects that did not make it to market: SimEarth and The Lost Vikings (3D). With SimEarth, I created lots of storyboards and character designs, including Frogs, Dolphins, and Dinosaurs (there were 7 species total). I did all the 3d modeling and animating for both projects.

Super Nintendo (SNES) was a tricky platform to create product for. It was limited to 16 color palettes for each sprite or tile and the aspect ratio was funky: natively rendered an 8:7 aspect ratio internally but stretched to 4:3 on standard televisions. Yes, I pixel-pushed ALL the artwork for Star Trek, Starfleet Academy which was an early adopter of real time 3d engines.

Characters are always a challenge to make interesting, believable and, most of all, appealing.

I rendered all the spell animations in StoneKeep utilizing the Alias Dynamation particle system. I created the opening cinematics for the Battle Chess Collection. Also, I did quite a bit of 3d work on VR Sports Baseball: building the 3d stadiums in Wavefront and creating the player characters.

1995 - 2002 DREAMWORKS SKG
Dreamworks Interactive recruited me to model and animate Steven Spielberg's new project, Virtual Life. Nora Efron was writing the story and it promised to be a breakout game experience. Regrettably, the project got shelved in lieu of The Lost World: Jurassic Park but this title turned out to be quite the hit on the Sony Playstation, raking in over 7 million dollars. I modeled and animated all the player characters and some of the peripheral dinosaurs as well.

Soon, Dreamworks moved me over to feature animation to keyframe (hand-animate) the dragon character on the original SHREK animated film. Before I even got to start, though, the entire production team got canned. The film was yanked out of production and thrust into visual development where I wound up working the main characters, Shrek and Donkey, instead, flushing out aesthetic, animation and technical issues. I built and rigged quite a few derivative models and created dozens of animation sequences.
